12/20/2003 Rev. Ronald A. Ackord, 73, of Cape Coral passed away Saturday December 20, 2003 at 9:19 am in his sleep. Native of Jamaica, Rev. Ackord was ordained a local elder by Bishop John Hurst Adams in 2001. He was a member of Calvary A.M.E. Church. Services entrusted by Metz Chapel Funeral Home, 1306 Lafayette St, Cape Coral FL 33904, Tel 239-542-2134, Doreena Medina, Director. Rev. Ackord is survived by his wife Marie Mallory Ackord and his two children who now live in London, England, his nephew George Brown of Cape Coral.

Calvary A.M.E. Church has lost one of its ministers. The Reverend Ronald Alexander Ackord went to meet the Lord Saturday December 20, 2003 at 9:19 am.

He was born September 18, 1930 in Jamaica. He was one of the first members of Calvary A.M.E. Church back in 1993 when the church was officially established by Rev. Cornelius Jenkins, the then Presiding Elder and entered into the records of the Fort Myers District

of the Tampa-Florida Annual Conference of the 11th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Ackord lived most of his life in London England and The United States. He studied electricity in London and worked for the British Telephone Company. He moved to the United States in early 1980’s and married Marie Mallory Ackord in September 23, 1983 and moved to Cape Coral shortly after.

For the past 20 years he made his home in Lee County working in the field of electricity as a self-employed businessman. In 1995, he went to B.F. Lee Seminary in Tampa Florida where he studied Theology along with the Reverend Emmanuel B Menager, the current pastor of Calvary A.M.E. Church. He was ordained local deacon in 1999 at Turner Chapel AME Church in Palmetto Florida by Bishop Frank C. Cummins. After two years of more study, in 2001, he was ordained local elder at Mt Olive A.M.E. Church in Clearwater Florida by Bishop John Hurst Adams.

Rev. Ackord has been instrumental to the welfare of the church. He built the pulpit, the altar rail, the wall and the present platform where the ministers sit. He contributed financially to the church over the years. He held several positions at Calvary A.M.E Church namely Trustee and Steward for 5 years, Church School Superintendent, Treasurer and Member of the Official Board. He served under Pastors Walker and Menager. He is survived by his wife Marie Mallory Ackord, his two children who live in London, his nephew George Brown of Cape Coral and other family members living in Orlando, Canada, England and Jamaica.

Rev. Ronald Alexander Ackord died December 20, 2003 at 9:19 a.m. at his home in Cape Coral. A memorial service will be held January 12, 2004 at 7:00 pm at Calvary A.M.E. Church in Cape Coral Florida USA. He will certainly be missed.

 04/16/2000 The Arts and Entertainment department of United Haitian American Association will celebrate Haitian Flag Day on May 20, 2000 from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm at  the Star Complex on Edison Ave in Fort Myers. Music, Games, will be provided.

03/11/2000 The education department of United Haitian American Association started a new session of Basic Computer class. This session will last 7 weeks. The class meets on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.

12/20/99 The Board of Directors of United Haitian American Association at its regular session has selected 5 people to form a new committee (Electoral Council) for next year's  elections. The names are as follows: Jude Joseph, Jean Ronique Louis, Ostin Joseph, Charles Levelt and Daniel Malivert. They will have the duty to prepare, direct and supervise the 2000 Elections to be held on February 21, 2000 at 8:00 p.m.

12/19/99 Calvary AME Church is proud to announce that Mr. Emmanuel B. Menager and Brother Ronald Ackord have been ordained Local Deacons in the African Methodist Episcopal Church by the 95th Consecrated Bishop, the Right Reverend Frank Curtis Cummings of the 11th Episcopal District. 12/19/1998 United Haitian American Association has put together several programs for 1999:

Two computer classes meeting every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
A home economic class that meets every Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
An english class for non-speaking english people that meets every Friday at 7:00 p.m.
A class that teaches people how to read and write. They meet every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
A food distribution for disadvantaged people every Monday at 8:00 p.m.
A fund-raising BBQ gathering every Saturday after 4:00 p.m.

UHAA has been meeting the needs of the community of Southwest Florida from North Port to Naples. UHAA is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Florida in October 1994.
